Dear Prof. Venturella,
Million thank for your kind introduction and prompt action concerning Phellinus linteus mushroom given to you whilst we were together in Beijing recently. Dr. Dai who is the mushroom specialist in Beijing and dealing with this mushroom has recently confirmed that this mushroom is under Inonotus linteus which is similar to Phellinus linteus. We have just again sent him with fresh sample for him to trace DNA pattern to reconfirm his finding.
Below herein to reply your queries as the followings :
a. You are definitely correct , this mushroom grow naturally and abundantly in Acacia tomentosa Willd. and Shorea obtusa Wall.ex Blume in our hometown (phrae , Lumpang, Chiangmai, Mai Hongson province and also in the North East region.
b. It has been widely used as a main ingredient for various concoction formulae as given in the article for IMMC7 by me. In Thailand we do not use medicinal mushroom alone to treat human sickness it has to come along with other useful herbs as mentioned. The most important treatment by using this mushroom as major ingredient could be liver cancer, Prostate cancer particularly for Autoimmune disorder like diabetes type II, HIV’s, ITP, SLE and amyloides
c. Depending on its host ie. if originally this mushroom grow on Acacia tomentosa where being called locally as Kra-Tin-Narong then this mushroom is called Hed Kra-Tin-Narong (Hed = mushroom), likewise those grow in Shorea obtusa where the Northern people call this plant as Jigg, then this mushroom is called Hed Jigg, the North-East people call this tree as Keng, it is therefore the local name would be Hed Keng.

ก. ใช่ เห็ดที่ท่านได้ตัวอย่างไปนั้น เป็นเห็ดที่เกิดขึ้นบนต้นแงะ หรือต้นจิก(ภาษาเหนือ) ต้นเค็งหรือต้นจิก(ภาษาอิสาน) ชื่อทางวิทยาศาสตร์ คือ Shorea obtusa Wall.ex Blume และเกิดขึ้นบนต้นกระถินพิมาน ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ คือ Acacia tomentosa Willd
ข. เห็ดชนิดนี้ ใช้กันอย่างแพร่หลายของคนในท้องถิ่มทางภาคเหนือและอิสาน แต่จะใช้เป็นส่วนประกอบกับสมุนไพรอย่างอื่น ตามสูตรที่ให้ไว้แก่ กระทรวงสาธารณสุข ในหนังสือ เห้ดเป็นยาของกระทรวงที่แจกฟรี โรคที่นิยมใช้เห็ดกระถินพิมานฌป้นส่วนประกอบหลักที่สำคัญได้แก่ โรคมะเร็งต่างๆ โดยเฉพาะมะเร็งตับ มะเร็งต่อมลูกหมาก เบาหวาน ภูมิคุ้มกันบกพร่อง เช่น เอดส์ เอสแอลอี ไอทีพี เป็นต้น
ค. สำหรับชื่อเรียกตามท้องถิ่นนั้น ขึ้นอยู่กับว่า เห็ดชนิดนี้ ขึ้นอยู่บนต้นอะไร ยกตัวอย่างเช่น ทางภาคเหนือ เกิดขึ้นตามต้นแงะหรือต้นจิก จึงเรียกเห็ดชนิดนี้ว่า เห็ดจิก ทางอิสาน เรียกต้นแงะหรือต้นจิกตามภาษาท้องถิ่นว่า ต้นเค็ง จึงเรียกเห็ดชนิดนี้ว่า เห็ดเค็ง หากขึ้นกับต้นกระถินพิมาน ก็จะเรียกว่า เห็ดกระถินพิมาน
